RED ROCK ENERGY, LLC
North Island has partnered with El Dorado Ventures, LLC to form Red Rock Energy, LLC. Through this partnership, North Island is branching into the public utility sector to gain a foothold into the clean energy industry. The company has a dual focus – in April 2013, Red Rock Energy began operating a Refined Coal Facility (RCF) at the San Juan Generating Station (SJGS) in Farmington, NM. The purpose of the RCF is to apply chemical additives in exacting quantities to coal as it proceeds down the conveyor belt to be used as fuel to generate electricity. The proprietary mix of chemicals is a cost effective method for reducing the amount of Nitrous Oxide and Mercury emissions released into the atmosphere. A second facility in Arizona is expected to begin operation in 2014.
In addition to operating refined coal facilities, Red Rock Energy is venturing into state-of-the-art gasification technology by partnering with TCG Global, LLC. In the near future, Red Rock Energy will construct and operate gasification plants in the U.S. and select international markets. The gasification plants are capable of converting any carbon-containing feedstock such as biomass, coal, petroleum coke, or municipal solid waste (MSW) into synthesis gas (Syngas), consisting primarily of hydrogen (H) and carbon monoxide (CO). The Syngas produced by this gasification process is a clean, dry, flexible fuel which can be (1) burned to create heat and electricity, (2) passed through any of several different catalysts to produce fluids such as alcohols and transportation fuels, including clean burning diesel, or (3) used to supply pure hydrogen gas for multiple applications.
Red Rock Energy is on the leading edge of sustainable technology to address two major problems in today’s world – limited landfill sites for a growing population and diminishing supplies of fossil fuels to provide energy for our future.
